Term-based workshops will be held throughout 2014 for young performers. Get involved and develop your skills outside of the classroom.

Empire Theatre

Drama One- Grades 5-7

Have fun with like-minded people by learning basic performance and creative skills while building your self-confidence and focus through exciting drama activities.

Drama Two- Grades 8-10

Develop you drama and performance skills in a passionate and supportive environment and create original, devised and scripted outcomes.

Drama Plus- Grades 11- Young Adult

Gain a deeper understanding of your world through drama and performance. If you want to advance your skills and opportunities in artistic development adn performance, Drama Plus goes beyond classroom learning to prepare you for the industry.

The IMPACT Ensemble

Presented by Empire Youth Arts, the IMPACT Ensemble is an elite performance program for young artists. Entry is based on audition and the ensemble will work for a semester to create, develop and rehearse a polished performance piece for audiences at the Empire Theatre. The IMPACT Ensemble has previously presented Nick Enright's Blackrock, 10 Down 6 Across and Patricia Corneluis' Slut, and the highly successful Seedling Project in 2013.

School Holiday Workshops

Summer

The 18 Hour Play Project

When: 21-23 January

This highly popular workshop series returns in January for both primary (ages 9-12) and secondary (ages 13-17) students. In 18 hours, over three days, you'll use improvisations, performance skills and your own imagination to create a short play. Unleash your creativity and be amazed at what you can come up with in the allocated time. This three day holiday activity will get your creative juices flowing and set you up for an artistic year ahead!

Winter

Youth Arts Theatre Challenge

When: 1-4 July

Over four days these winter holidays the Youth Arts Theatre Challenge will test and push students to their theatrical limits. A variety of age groups will compete in a series of round robin workshops for three days, skill building in the areas of acting, clowning and improvisation. On the final day, audiences can come and watch the students compete in a theatre sports contest- a battle of skill, improvisation and creativity.

Spring

Flipside Circus

When: 22-26 September

Across three days, participants will explore physical techniques used in circus performance. The nationally acclaimed tutors from Flipside Circus will guide you through juggling, tumbling, acrobatics, trapeze and more! On the final day of the workshop students willl showcase these newfound skills to friends and family. Don't miss this fun unique experience!
