Homegrown Series

 

Presented by Crackerjack Chicken, the Empire Theatre's Homegrown Series has quickly established itself as the region's premier platform to present adventurous, unearthed and edgy performances. In its second year, the Homegrown Series will offer a mixture of new works, Australian dramas, international classics and independent productions.

Presented by the Empire Theatre's elite youth company, the IMPACT Ensemble, Slut tells of the spectacular rise and fall of one young girl, as told through the eyes of the women around her. WHEN I SAY JUMP 11 - 12 July

Twelve inspiring artists from different disciplines are selected and then matched in unusual pairs by the curator of the event, Jen Murray. The pairs are introduced just 2 weeks before the performance and are given only one directive: to create a new collaborative work. Tickets on sale soon.

 

THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) 12-15 September

All 37 plays in 97 minutes! This fast-paced parody of The Bard's plays is a rollercoaster through his comedies, histories and tragedies. It features Othello as a rap song, Titus Andronicus as a cooking program and Hamlet narrated by sock puppets. This is an evening of laughter for Shakespeare lovers and haters alike. Linda has her life all figured out - great job, great apartment and for two weeks a year she tries to take up craft and a vegan diet. SEEDLING 9-10 November

In 2013 the IMPACT Ensemble will find a seedling - a young regional playwright tasked with writing an original work to be performed on stage by the IMPACT Ensemble. Throughout the year, the Seedling will work closely alongside Youth Arts Director and award-winning playwright Claire Christian to develop and complete their exciting work. In Semester Two, the Ensemble will have the opportunity to work with a guest director to bring the Seedling's work to life onstage. Playwright applications are now closed. Artist application will open in June.
