25th Anniversary Celebration

Empire Theatres is celebrating the 25th Anniversary since the reopening of the theatre in 1997 with an open invite to the public to join us for live entertainment, light shows and an art exhibition honouring the history of the Empire Theatre since the initial opening in 1911.

As part of the Empire Theatre’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the Empire Theatre will open its doors free to the public from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on Saturday July 2, allowing you to wander and take in the magnificent front of house of this grand building at your own pace, without the usual time constraints of the looming curtain call when you have come to see a performance.

During this open-day styled event, the Empire Theatre’s foyer will feature an exhibition looking at the theatre through the eyes of photographers and artists.

On display also will be memorabilia highlighting and evoking memories of the Empire’s rich and vibrant past, first having opened on the Neil Street site in 1911.

In the main theatre, there will be piano recitals on stage and light shows in the main auditorium showcasing the state-of-the-art lighting systems Australia’s largest regional theatre boasts, creating the perfect lighting and mood for whatever performance graces the Empire’s main stage.

Our bar areas will be open during the course of the afternoon.
