Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady opened on Broadway in 1956, and during its long run, collected six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The film version, starring Audrey Hepburn was released in 1964 and won eight Oscars, including Best Picture. Hailed by both critics and audiences, My Fair Lady is a beautiful musical about transformation, patronage, gender politics and class.
The tale of a cockney flower girl transformed into an elegant lady is based on the 1913 stage play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw and features one of musical theatre’s greatest scores, which includes popular favourites “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?,” “With a Little Bit of Luck,” “The Rain in Spain,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “On the Street Where You Live,” “Get Me to the Church on Time,” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.”
Presented by the Toowoomba Choral Society and directed by award winning Director Kate Peters, My Fair Lady is that rare musical by which all others are measured.
