Thrive on Arts is a creative festival for young people, families and the wider community that celebrates play, imagination, creativity and storytelling from Thursday 23- Sunday 26 September. 

In 2021, the Empire Theatre will be buzzing as we celebrate everything about nature's hardest worker... the Bee! 

The family program includes a mixture of activities to excite ages 1-12 years and their adults. Whether it be music, drama, art or a workshop that brings you to Thrive, stay a while and experience something new.

Movie Screening- Bee Movie (Jerry Seinfeld, Renee Zellweger)

Thursday 23 September, 10.30am, Armitage Centre 

Price: FREE (Bookings essential - online and phone bookings will incur transaction fee) 

Barry B. Benson, a bee just graduated from college, is disillusioned at his lone career choice: making honey. On a special trip outside the hive, Barry's life is saved by Vanessa, a florist in New York City. 

As their relationship blossoms, he discovers humans actually eat honey, and subsequently decides to sue them.

Spin by Circa Zoo 

Saturday 25 September, 12.30pm, Armitage Centre 

Price: $22 per person- Group of 4 $80 

Created by Anna Murray, Manelaya Kaydos-Nitis, Alex Mizzen and the Circa Zoo ensemble. Spin will take you on a surreal journey with hula hoops, spinning plates and jaw-dropping acrobatics that will open your heart and make your head spin! Combining joyous tumbling and sublime aerials, Spin is daring and sometimes silly and is sure to make you dizzy! Circa Zoo is a troupe of young artists daring to create and perform spectacular contemporary circus under the guidance of trainers and directors.

The Bear Who Loved to Dance by Monika Filipina Trzpil

Featuring the Toowoomba Concert Orchestra

Toowoomba Region Libraries, First 5 Forever and Empire Theatres presents an introduction to orchestral music for the whole family. Join us as Toowoomba Concert Orchestra brings this children’s book alive! Who said that bears can’t dance? Come along to this free family concert and have fun watching Bear discover something special about himself.

Workshops 

Circa - Youth Workshops (Ages 5-9 yrs)

Class Duration: 1 hour

Thursday 23 9.30am and 10.30am & Friday 24 September, 10.30am 

Price: $20 per participant

Explore the action-packed world of circus with our Circa Classes trainers through tumbling, acrobatics, handstands and more. This workshop is suitable for beginners with no previous circus experience aged 5-9yrs.

Thursday 23 & Friday 24 September, 12pm- 1.30pm

Price: $65 per participant (covers both days of workshop- 3 hours total)

Ready. Set. Dance 

Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 September

9.15am-10.30am: Ages 2-5 years 

Price: $18 per person 

Ready Set Dance is designed to give boys and girls confidence, coordination and creativity, these introductory dance classes are so much fun for the little ones! Classes bring together a combination of Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Singing and Music to develop physical and musical skills to nurture their blossoming creativity.  Presented by Dance Central these classes will get everyone moving!

Each day, 9.30am & 10am, Empire Church Theatre - Under the Magnolia Tree
Join the Toowoomba Libraries First 5 Forever team and enjoy some interactive story time under the shade of our magnificent magnolia tree. Reading, singing and playing is a great way to kick start the day.

Roving Entertainment by You Me Three Clown Company
Each day, 10am, 11.15am &12.30pm, Empire Church Lawn
Bum and Bim are the best beekeepers in Queensland, but they have lost track of their favourite bee, the Queen! Only by the power of a really good boogie can she be found, will you help them track her down?

Bee Talk by Glen Tucker
Each Day, 11.30am, Empire Church Lawn
Come along and learn a little more about nature's busiest worker... the bee! President of the Southern Beekeepers Association, Glen Tucker will demonstrate just how clever and important these creatures really are.

The Hive
Each day, 9am-2pm, Empire Church Lawn
Come and make a worker bee to help our Queen and fill the hive in our garden!
